We recently went on a Disneys newest ship, the Disney wish. And to say it was amazing would be an understatement. And to no surprise, many of you had ALOT of questions in regards to our trip. I may be doing things a bit backwards by starting with the frequently asked questions, which will be followed up by our experience on the Disney Wish Cruise. But let’s get into it. In todays FAQ I will answer everything from if you need to be vaccinated to how much the trip cost us.
Did you need covid testing ?
At the time when we traveled there was no covid testing or vaccinations required. As it stands today ( Feb 28,2023) these are the recommendations: “For sailings departing from the United States and Puerto Rico, Disney Cruise Line no longer requires Guests to be vaccinated and tested for COVID-19. We highly recommend that all Guests become fully vaccinated before sailing and encourage unvaccinated Guests to take a COVID-19 test 2 days prior to their cruise. Please be aware that health and safety measures may change at any time. “
Are other restaurant meals included in your plan ?
The way it works is that you rotate through 3 different resultants and repeat 1. On the Disney Wish there is Marvel, Arendelle and 1923. You repeat one of these on a 4 night cruise. You also have access to the Marceline market where you can eat at any time during the day.You also have in room dinning available 24/7. There are additional cafes and restaurants listed below. These restaurants are at an additional cost.
- The Bayou Lounge
- Nightingales Lounge
- The Wishing Star Cafe
- Enchanted Sword Cafe
- Inside Out: Joyful Sweets
- The Rose Lounge
- Palo Steakhouse
- Enchante
Do you find it busy or packed with people?
The answer is no it was not crowded, but it is busy, if that makes sense. For example, you will never have a pool to yourself, but you always have space to swim, sit, etc.
Your supper times are guaranteed- you have a guaranteed table with the same servers every night. Supper is very organized and you are in and out in an hour. This is the same for lunch and breakfast. They have sit down and buffet options- both are amazing and both are easy to get to. We never had to wait for anything and were able to do everything we wanted with no issues of wait time.
One recommendation I would have is if you really want a specific spot at the pool I’d recommend getting up early and putting a towel down ( bring towel clips so you can find your spot easily). People were pretty good about not holding a spot all day though so even if you aren’t an early riser, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
Was 4 days long enough ?
NO! I mean how is four days enough in this magical place. It literally is magical. We loved it so much and wish the Disney Wish did a 7 day cruise. As of now they are only doing 3 & 4 night bookings. I assume its because it’s their newest ship and they want as many people on it as possbile.
One con is that we felt we didn’t get to see and do everything on the ship. Between Castaway Key and the Bahamas there wasn’t much time spent on the ship to enjoy all the activities. There were areas of the ship that I was finding out about on our last day that I wish we had more time to enjoy. But I guess that just means we have to do another sailing on the Wish.
Which feature is your favourite ?
The theatre with live shows is incredible. We only had time to watch one ( Aladdin) but we wish we could have caught them all. The live theatre was like watching a movie but in real life.
The aqua mouse water slide was also very cool. It is a 2 person tube waterslide that goes over the top of the ship. It has screens inside the tunnel that play Disney clips. The pool area is the hub of all activities most days for sure
Do you need an itinerary or just do as you please
You do not need an itinerary. The only mandatory thing you are required to attend is the safety meeting right before the ship sails. Your dinning experiences are either booked for early dinning or late dinning- don’t worry if you miss this because you have so many dinning options including your 24/7 in room service ( which is included in your fee)
Off ship excursions, bippidi boppi, spa , palo, ehcnhate are all activities you can add to your experience. They are all at any extra cost and I would highly recommend booking them prior to your sailing. Our trip was a last minute trip- so lots of these booking were taken up. What I did do was go to guest services to move our dinning time, and see if I could book ourselves in for things such as the bippidid bopiddi.
You really create the experience you want. Disney cruise has a bunch of activities planned out throughout the day -character meet and great, movies, and many other activities. You can use the navigator app to see what activities are going on and put them into your itinerary.
Did anyone get seasick?
This was one of my biggest worries. Prior to our trip I had done some research and picked up some anti nausea patches on amazon. I also went to guest services on the first day to get kids Dramamine. The dramamine was free for adults, and around $10 USD for kids.
Have you and Brock had alone time ? Is there kids club ?
We did get some time alone. We wish we would have taken more advantage of the kids club options. but we only used them 2 times. For our kids ages ( 5, 3, and 18 months) we had options to use the Oceanears Club and its a small world nursery. You get 10 hours total to use at the It’s a Small World Nursery. It is an extra cost at $8/ hour if I recall. It is available for 0-3 year olds ( if they are not potty trained) once your child is 3 and potty trained, they can then go to the oceans club.
The oceans club is free and you there is no time limit on how many hours they can spend there as long as it’s open. If I recall they are open 7-11pm. Because there is no cell service on the ship you have to make sure you have the navigator app so the staff can communicate with you. We found they did everything they could to settle our children, and updated us often.
Here is a list of all the available child care services
- Oceaneer Club, including the Marvel, Star Wars Cargo Bay, and Imagineering Lab.
- It’s a Small World Nursery
- Edge Tween Club
- Vibe Teen Club
- The Hideaway
- Hero Zone
What’s the best way of booking a Disney cruise? Online or their website, travel agent?
I did all the booking and scheduling on my own it took a lot of research & a million calls to the Disney Cruise line help desk. They were amazing and gave me a lot of tips. But If you really do not want to think about any of the bookings I would suggest using a Disney Cruise travel agent. Although I didn’t go this route there are a lot of benefits to it. The obvious being not having to deal with any of the booking headache. And believe me when I tell there is a lot to think about – what hotel will you stay at before, how will you get to Port Canaveral, flights, which floor to stay on the ship etc. I want to preface by saying this next part is NOT SPONSORED. These are my opinions based on the research I had done.
When we were booking I considered Tinks magical vacation. I’ve hard great things about things them even though I didn’t go with them but I would next time. The other great thing about using a Disney travel agent is on board credits. They usually can get you credits to use on the ship. And BONUS all their services are free.
THEE MOST ASKED QUESTION. HOW MUCH WAS THE TRIP
Cruise for 5 = $7954.90 CAD
Gratuity for 5 = 385.94 ( $14/day per person )
Flights = $5558
Total= $13,898
As you will notice this price does not include the bibidi bopidi boutique, excursions, transportation to and from port Canaveral, or hotel cost prior to our cruise of after. These were all extra costs that you may have to consider if needed.
** Note Disney Cruise Line automatically chargers a gratuity. We had forgotten about this and were tipping during out dinning times. Keep this in mind as you will be charged gratuity at the end of the cruise.**
