During my last visit to Toronto, I stayed directly downtown. If you are looking for a location to stay in downtown Toronto check out the Sheraton Center Toronto. Before I flew back home, I decided to stay at the Sheraton Gateway, which is located directly in the airport. And spoiler, this is on my highly recommended list of things to do if you are flying out of Toronto Pearson Airport.
The Sheraton Gateway Toronto is one of a handful of hotels worldwide that has been rebranded to showcases the brand vision for the Marriott Sheraton Hotels.
Typically, staying in the airport means sleeping on the airport floor, most likely on top of the luggage that was probably given back to you. Well, believe me when I tell you this is not your typical airport stay. If you are looking to escape the Toronto Pearson Airport madness you will want keep reading.
The Sheraton Gateway is the only hotel in the Toronto international airport. To say this hotel is gorgeous is an understatement. It recently underwent a 30million transformation. I promise you it is a must see whether for an overnight stay or for an unforgettable dining experience!
Getting there
If you are flying through the Toronto Pearson the hotel is located right off of terminal 3. If you are coming from Downtown Toronto UP express gives you direct access to the hotel.
Arriving at the hotel
The first thing you notice is the gorgeous lobby with a beautiful wall unit filled with modern art and decor. The lobby is warm and inviting with soft finishes, and wood tones. The open concept- public square feel really encompasses the art of gathering- encouraging all guests to come down from their rooms for a place to work, meet, and relax.
There are several meeting rooms around, and private booths if you need to make a call or take a meeting. Just around the lobby you’ll find the &more by Sheraton restaurant which serves as a cocktail bar, coffee bar, and restaurant. Whether you are grabbing a quick coffee before a flight, a sit down meal, or a night cap &more has you covered. They have focused their restaurant to transition and accommodate day and night schedules with perfect food and beverage options for all travellers. And bonus, all ingredients are locally sourced.
Rooms
The Sheraton Gateway has 467 rooms, and 17 suites. I stayed in their 400sq club level king room . The room was spacious with gorgeous natural wood and soft finishes and a beautiful platform king bed with a rug underneath. Gone are the days of the carpeted hotel rooms, and I’m here for it. I had a workstation, with an ergonomic in-room resizing table to allow for a standing work station, cocktails, or hosting a friend. My room overlooked the airplane taxi area, where I was able to see all the airplanes taxi before take off. This was an experience in itself . The bathroom was a content creators dream- with a full glass shower, marble, and light oak detailing. All club level rooms are stocked with warm oak amenities by Gilchrist & Soames. And if you are concerned about hearing the planes take off rest assured you won’t with the double paned windows. I slept like a baby!
The Hotel Amenities
Fitness Center & Pool
They have a Paleton fitness room ( yes you read that right ). I was quite impressed by this fitness centre, which also had free weights, yoga mats and blocks, and more. And if the fitness centre isn’t your style, a swim in their heated pool is a perfect activity.
The Club Lounge
The Sheraton Club lounge is open 24/7 to Marriott Bonvoy Elite members and Sheraton Club level guests- and believe me it is worth the upgrade. This exclusive lounge is spacious and includes all day snacks, evening h’ouderves, and a complimentary breakfast. During my stay we had the privallage of enjoying a night in the club lounge hosted by the Sheraton Gateway to experience a new summer menu created by Chef Bagali. I was quite excited to experience this menu as Chef Bagali has 25 years of experience in luxurious hotels including Maldives, United Arab Emirates, India and more. Through his vast experiences, he has created a menu unique to Toronto that showcases it’s diversity through amazing cuisine.
We started off the evening with speciality cocktails prepared by the club lounge mixologist. I tried the celebration station-a blend of cointreau, Prosecco dessert pair and lemon juice. After, we were spoiled with our choice of an array of samplers from bam bam shrimp, pickle slaw, samba aioli and more. Along with our dinner we sampled a few wines featured on their drink menu- fume blanc, are rose, Cabernet Sauvignon. For dinner I enjoyed the charred scallion chimichurri, and fingerling potatoes, a spectacular meal. The meal was nothing short of amazing, and I cannot wait for my next visit
On your next travels through Toronto Pearson, I would highly recommend a stay at the Sheraton Gateway, and like I said if not for the night for a bite at the &more by Sheraton.
